This substantial inn stands overlooking the
center of the village, with a car park in front of it. It is
built of light stone, with a well proportioned front and clean,
white framed windows. It has been an inn since 1840, though
the building itself is much older than that. Walgrave itself
is very pretty and the Royal Oak fits perfectly into its charming,
olde worlde atmosphere. Inside is open plan, with many period
fittings. There are bare stone walls, black beamed ceilings,
and in the winter the open fires in the restaurant and bar areas
give out a welcoming heat and cosy glow that reflects on the
well polished and spotlessly clean furniture.
Real ales are available at the bar, plus guest
ales, and there’s a good selection of lager, stout and
cider as well. The Royal Oaks food is famous and about 500 bar
meals are served every week. The cuisine is traditional British,
and the seafood, which is always fresh, is particularly recommended.
For bar meals, you can choose from the chalkboard, but if you
want something just that little bit special, a gourmet menu
is available. If you want wine to accompany your meal, there
is a small but select wine list which will undoubtedly include
something that complements your choice of food.
We also have a large car park to the front and side of the premises. In our beer garden we have a large childrens play ground with activity frame and a seperate covered smoking area.
